Reina is a registered clinical social worker. She has a private practice where she provides individual, couple, and family counselling.
Reina has a specialized Honors degree in Psychology, and a Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in individual, family, and group counselling. She has also completed Level 1 and Level 2 training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and has training in family mediation. EMDR can be used to treat trauma and phobias.
Reina has conducted original research about the emotional impacts of infertility on couples, and developed an innovative counselling tool to help couples cope with stresses in their relationships. Her research won the Ivana Guglietti-Kelly Prize for Excellence in Qualitative Research at York University, the Graduate Gold Medal (Master’s Level) for the Faculty of Social Work at Wilfrid Laurier University, and was published in the British Infertility Counselling Association Journal. Reina was also nominated for the Governor General's Academic Medal.
Reina is a contributing author to Embrace Your Fertility. The book offers a multifaceted discussion about infertility, and includes expert advice from professionals about such topics as naturopathy, acupuncture, the mind body connection, and medical treatments. Reina's chapter provides a case study of a couple going through infertility, and demonstrates how she counsels couples so that they can successfully work through the many challenges of infertility.
Reina has also addressed the challenges of infertility in a number of articles. The Importance of Resiliency in Coping with Infertility describes how you can change your thinking to cope with adversity. Coping With the Two-Week Wait: An Emotional Perspective helps you get through one of the most difficult periods during fertility treatment. Maintaining Your Relationship During Fertility Treatments helps couples overcome the emotional and psychological stress of infertility, and keep their relationships intact.
Reina is Co-Chair of the Ethics Committee at the TRIO fertility clinic. She also leads fertility support groups at TRIO for: men, including gender and sexually diverse patients; women, including gender and sexually diverse patients; patients having difficulty with a subsequent pregnancy; relationships during fertility treatment; patients who are pregnant; patients who are new parents; and patients who are single parents.
Reina has developed and conducted seminars for TAPE Education Services, and has made presentations and conducted workshops for the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society, Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
Reina is a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers, EMDR Canada, and the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society.
